Working in a continuous run

With an 11 mm blade the point is to be able to run through. Once the cuticle is pushed back, engage the jaws at one end of the fold and advance in successive bites, letting each cut overlap the previous one by a fraction of a millimetre. The result is a continuous line, without the small notches a choppy cut leaves behind. This requires keeping the blade flat against the skin and closing fully on every bite: a nipper closed halfway snags the skin instead of cutting it, and the benefit of the longer blade is lost.

Choosing between CLASSIC 10 and CLASSIC 12

Both models cover the same job: cutting the cuticle and hangnails. They differ in the shape of their jaws and handles, and therefore in how they feel in the hand and the angle from which you approach the fold. This is not a difference in level, and neither is more professional than the other. Your own movement is the best guide: if your hand turns naturally around the nail, one silhouette will suit you better than the other, and you will know from the first cuts. Blade length, however, is what you choose first.

One instrument, one person

The simplest rule is also the safest: a cuticle nipper stays attached to a single person. Clean it after every use, dry it, store it closed. Under heavy use, expect a regular trip to the sharpener; under occasional use, the edge lasts far longer.
