That power comes with one plain rule: this grit stays on artificial product. Work flat, without leaning in, letting the abrasive advance at its own pace. Pressure speeds up nothing and costs you the line you were drawing.

162 x 25 mm: what that surface changes in the stroke

Twenty-five millimetres of width means one pass covers a whole free edge without going back over it. One hundred and sixty-two millimetres of length means the hand holds the tool well away from the nail and keeps a clear view while the material comes off.

The straight side of the crescent serves length: you present the free edge to it and bring it down to the agreed measure. The curved side works the other end of the nail, towards the cuticle area and along the lateral folds, where a straight file would run into the skin.

Grey abrasive, stearate coating, thin foam

The mineral abrasive of the SMART series is recognisable by its grey shade: that is the colour of this line, while white belongs to the EXPERT range. It carries a stearate coating whose job is precisely to delay clogging, the point at which gel dust fills the grain and the file starts sliding instead of cutting.

Under the grit, a thin layer of foam separates the abrasive from its board. It is enough to absorb the uneven pressure of the hand without turning the file into a sponge: in bulk removal you want to feel the material, not a mattress.
