STALEKS SMART 40 crescent mineral nail file grit 180/180, doubled surface and a steady stroke

A finishing grit does not wear out, it fills up. That is why the STALEKS SMART 40 crescent mineral nail file in grit 180/180 carries the same abrasive on both faces: when the first loads with dust, the second takes over and the service continues with an identical bite. Twice the surface, one behaviour, no decision to make along the way. A 162 x 25 mm crescent, SMART line by Staleks, pack of 25.

Twice the same surface, twice the working life

On a file with two different grits, each stage has only one face at its disposal. As soon as it loads, you open a new file although the other side has never been used. Here the whole board is given to 180: the surface available for finishing is doubled from the outset.

Across a full hand followed by a second, that avoids starting a second consumable in the middle of a client. You work one face, you switch, you finish, you bin it.

The steady stroke, from the first nail to the tenth

Working with two different grits calls for constant adjustment: pressure is not the same depending on which face is in contact, and the hand has to know that before every pass. With a single abrasive that variable disappears. The wrist finds a rhythm and keeps it.

That consistency shows in the result. Ten free edges finished at exactly the same rate of cut look more alike than ten free edges finished with pressure corrected on every finger. It is also what makes the file useful in training, when a stroke has to be established before a protocol is.

What a single 180 can take on

180 is the grit of everyday finishing. On a natural nail it shortens a free edge, closes the rim, rounds a corner and leaves the cut smooth to the touch. You work in one direction, with no back and forth, and stop at the chosen length.

On a gel or polygel set that has already been shaped, it finishes the outline and prepares the surface for a base or a buffer. It does not correct a failed geometry: that belongs to the lower grits in the series.

The 162 x 25 mm crescent and where the fingers go

The half-moon shape is held by the middle for long passes and by one end for short corrections. Since contact only ever falls on part of the arc, the file pivots during the stroke instead of sliding, and it is that rotation which gives the free edge an even curve.

The straight edge of the crescent is the one that sets length; the curved edge follows the opposite line, towards the cuticle area and along the lateral folds. A straight file cannot present itself there without meeting skin.

Grey, stearate, foam: three details that add up

The mineral abrasive shows the grey shade of the SMART series, white identifying the EXPERT range. A stearate coating protects it from clogging, extending the period during which each face genuinely cuts before it has to be turned over.

A thin layer of foam separates the grit from the board and absorbs variations in pressure. It is deliberately slim: in finishing you need to feel the edge of the nail, not a bounce.

The upkeep grit above all others

The STALEKS SMART 40 grit 180/180 speaks to stations doing a lot of upkeep: regular manicures, reshapes, finishing on existing sets, pedicures on short nails. It is a grit used often and at length on every client, which is exactly why two faces beat one.

It is ordered in a pack of 25, the only format of the SMART 40 range. Each file accompanies one client and one only: it is binned afterwards, with no trip through a disinfectant bath, which is not intended for this kind of consumable.
