STALEKS EXPERT 20 disposable white files in 240 grit, finishing made gentle

The STALEKS EXPERT 20 disposable white files in 240 grit close the range of abrasives in the series. Self-adhesive strips of 140 x 18 mm mounted on a soft foam layer, supplied in a pack of 30 pieces and made for the MBE-20 and SPBE-20 straight bases, they are not there to shorten and not there to shape: they are there to finish. Smoothing the edge, softening the corners, the last pass on thin or weakened nails, those are the movements this grit was designed for.

What a gentle grit does that the others cannot

A shape can be perfectly drawn and still feel unpleasant under the finger. That is the whole point of finishing: taking the residual bite off the edge, erasing the micro marks left by the previous abrasives, rounding off the two corners that catch on tights and hair. This work does not call for power, it calls for delicacy.

240 grit removes very little material with each pass, which is exactly the intention. You can go over the edge several times without fear of distorting the line you have just achieved, checking the result with a fingertip between passes. On a natural manicure, this last pass is what separates a decent nail from a genuinely finished one.

Thin and weakened nails: easing off the abrasiveness

Some hands call for caution. Soft nails that split at the free edge, plates thinned by months of successive enhancements, edges that fray: on those, a sharp abrasive tears more than it files. A gentle grit works at the surface, without lifting the top layer of the free edge.

The rule for the movement is simple: a very light hand, a perfectly dry nail, a continuous stroke in a single direction and never a quick back and forth along the edge. On nails like these, several delicate passes beat one heavy one every time.

Smoothing the edge, corner by corner

Smoothing happens in three stages. The strip first passes flat under the free edge to remove the thread that almost always remains underneath. It then softens each of the two corners with a short rounded movement. It finishes with a very light pass along the edge itself, to even the cut out.

The same grit is also useful at the end of a service on artificial material, to erase the marks left by earlier stages before the top coat goes on. It does not replace a buffer, but it prepares an even surface.

A fine abrasive deserves a rigid base

In finishing work, the slightest irregularity in the holder shows up in the result. The MBE-20 and SPBE-20 straight bases supply that flatness, while the soft foam under the abrasive lets the strip follow the curve of the nail. Contact spreads across the full width instead of concentrating on one ridge, which is precisely the condition for even smoothing. The white surface, finally, immediately reveals the fine dust produced, a sign that the grit is still clean and still cutting.

One strip per client, no exceptions

Like every abrasive in the system, this strip is a single-use consumable. It is stuck down for one service, lifted by a corner at the end and thrown out with the treatment waste; no washing, no disinfection, no repositioning. The metal base is cleaned, disinfected and then sterilised according to salon protocol before it receives a fresh strip. That way no nail dust passes from one client to the next.

Putting the sticker on and taking it off

  1. Confirm the base is dry and disinfected before application.
  2. Separate the strip from its protective film.
  3. Apply it to the base watching the alignment, then smooth from the centre out to the ends.
  4. Carry out the finishing, brushing the abrasive clear as you go.
  5. Remove the used strip by a corner and discard it.
  6. Clean, disinfect and sterilise the base ready for the next appointment.

The pack of 30 pieces keeps this finishing grit within reach so the last stage of a service is never improvised, and the principle stays economical since only the strip is renewed.
