Nail Forms HEYLOVE Half Square: between square and almond

The half square keeps a flat free edge but clearly softens the sides, which converge in a gentle slope. It is an intermediate shape with no equivalent among the tips, and it answers a precise demand.

The shape clients look for without being able to name it

The situation comes up often at the station. The client tries the square and finds it too hard, too masculine on her hand. She tries the almond and finds it too soft, not assertive enough. She does not know what to ask for, and neither do you if those are your only two options. The half square settles it in one application. Keep a set of samples of all three shapes so you can show rather than explain.

How to proceed

Buffing with a 100 grit file, dusting off, degreasing with 96 per cent ethyl alcohol, dehydrator. Ultra Bond HEYLOVE, a thin coat of Rubber Base HEYLOVE Clear, 20 seconds under the lamp. Fill the inside of the chosen form with builder gel, fix it on the nail, one minute under UV or LED. Remove by pinching the sides, refine with file or e-file, remove the dispersion layer, then colour or top coat.

Which hands it suits

It balances medium to broad fingers, on which the square adds width and the almond takes away too much. On nails with pronounced curvature, its lateral slope follows the sidewall better than the sharp square, which reduces finishing file work.

Removing the form

A precise gesture, valid across the range but important here: pinch both sides inwards to release the material, without pulling upwards. Removal by traction deforms the freshly cured build and leaves a mark on the profile that will need sanding out.
