Gypsum Gel HEYLOVE Black: the most legible relief in the range

Gypsum Gel Black is the one to choose when the relief has to be seen from a distance. On pale shades, white and grey rely on cast shadows to reveal the texture; black draws by its presence alone. The result is bold, graphic and instantly recognisable in a photograph on a professional account.

Textured black rather than painted black

A flat black is hard to get right: the slightest unevenness in the coat shows, and the outline near the cuticle forgives nothing. A black texture, by contrast, tolerates irregularity because irregularity is the whole point. It is a way of offering black on your list without demanding mastery of a clean line, and the result is more interesting than a flat coat.

How to apply it

Work over a cured ground, preferably light for contrast. Take the material with a spatula, place it without spreading it with the brush, then structure it: dabbing for a stone grain, crossed strokes for a weave, dry point for render. Cure for 30 to 60 seconds depending on thickness. On a heavy coat, two short passes beat one long one.

Combinations that work

Over white or pale nude the result suggests ink and stone; that is the safest option. Over gold or a metallic ground the contrast becomes considerably dressier. Partial mixing with Gypsum Gel HEYLOVE White, worked directly on the nail without blending it fully, produces a grey marbled effect that neither shade gives on its own.

The finish

Matte is close to compulsory here. A glossy top over textured black creates highlights that flatten the relief, and the result reads as dirty rather than worked. Top HEYLOVE Super Matte preserves the depth; the contrast between a matte textured black finger and a glossy smooth black one is in fact a complete design in itself.
