Tint Base HEYLOVE True Red: a raspberry, despite the name

Best said straight away: True Red does not match its name. Applied, the shade is a deep raspberry pink, distinctly cool, a long way from the neutral red the name leads you to expect. Useful to know before ordering, and above all before offering it to a client asking for red.

Where it sits in the collection

Between Fire and Wine. Brighter and pinker than Tint Base HEYLOVE Wine, which turns bordeaux. Cooler and rosier than Tint Base HEYLOVE Fire. It is the only Met Gala shade that genuinely steps out of the red register and into deep fuchsia territory.

How to apply it

Dehydrate with pH Bond HEYLOVE, apply Ultra Bond HEYLOVE, then Rubber Base HEYLOVE Clear cured for 30 seconds, followed by one or two coats of True Red at 60 seconds each. Saturated cool pinks tend to highlight ridges on the nail plate: careful preparation changes the final result considerably.

How to present it in the salon

The gap between name and colour is better anticipated than endured. Show the tip before ordering, or file it in your display beside the pinks rather than beside the reds. A client discovering a raspberry when she expected a red will be disappointed; the same client shown a bright raspberry will adopt it without hesitation.

Who it suits

Hands with cool undertones, which it flatters where an orange red would clash. It works particularly well in spring and on short nails, where its brightness stays light rather than theatrical. On long nails it demands a steady hand at the outline, since saturated pinks underline any lapse in cleanliness. Filed among the pinks rather than the reds, it stops being a source of confusion and becomes one of the easiest shades in the collection to sell.
