Solid Platinum Gel HEYLOVE Copper: polished copper

Copper is the warmest and reddest metallic in the range. Its orange cast sets it clearly apart from gold: it does not read as jewellery but as metal, which gives it a more industrial and less predictable character.

The colour of autumn wardrobes

That is where it finds its audience. Terracotta, camel, rust and chocolate dominate the cold season, and no cool metallic sits with them without striking a false note. Copper is the answer, and it comes back every year between September and December with a regularity that justifies keeping it in stock.

How to apply it

Stir, lay a thin coat over a cured ground, allow a few seconds for the pigment to orient itself, cure for one to two minutes. Then seal immediately with top coat, in a single pass, without pressure and without going back. That last gesture is the same across the range and it is the one most often botched.

The patina effect

A design that suits it particularly well and calls for little technique. Lay the copper in an uneven coat, deliberately leaving thinner areas where the ground shows through, then seal matte: the result suggests oxidised metal, with density variations that create the illusion of age. Gypsum Gel HEYLOVE Black as an occasional accent sharpens the effect further.

On which grounds

Over a dark ground, brown or burgundy, the mirror is crisper and the shade deeper. Over a light ground, copper looks lighter and pinker. Two distinct results worth preparing on tips before advising.
