Gel Polish HEYLOVE Viva Magenta: the fuchsia of the Basic collection

Viva Magenta is a true fuchsia pink leaning slightly towards red. Its name takes up that of the Pantone colour named for 2023, which immediately places the shade in a fashion register rather than a core-range one.

The commercial lifespan of a fashion colour

This is a question worth asking before ordering. Shades tied to a year or a trend generally have two or three seasons of strong demand, then settle at a much lower level. Fuchsia is an exception, however: it is a colour family that returns cyclically under different names, because it matches a stable demand among younger clients and for festive occasions.

How to apply it

It all starts with a cleansed plate: pH Bond HEYLOVE, then Ultra Bond HEYLOVE on the edge, left to set without the lamp. Rubber Base HEYLOVE Clear needs 30 to 60 seconds. Shake before opening, then two thin veils of Viva Magenta are better than a single pass: highly saturated pinks readily show up flaws in spreading.

One coat or two

On highly saturated pinks, the first coat almost always lets the nail bed show through, which dulls the shade and creates a marbled effect at the free edge. The second coat is what establishes the colour as it appears on the swatch. Plan for it systematically rather than loading the first.

On which hands it shows best

Fuchsia is a cool colour that plays to the full on fair skin and on skin with bluish undertones. On very tanned skin it stays bright but shifts to a more tropical than graphic register.

On which lengths

On short nails it gives a crisp, cheerful result. On long nails it becomes frankly assertive, which suits an event better than an ordinary week at the office.
